Canes sign Lucas Wallmark to a three-year, $1.8 million contract

The Carolina Hurricanes have signed Lucas Wallmark to a three-year, entry-level contract worth $1.825 million the club announced on Thursday.

At the NHL level, Wallmark will make $575,000 in 2015-16, $600,000 in 2016-17 and $650,000 in 2017-18. The deal pays him $65,000 per season at the American Hockey League level and includes a signing bonus of $225,000.

“Lucas has good hockey sense and can contribute in all three zones in different situations,” said Carolina GM Ron Francis. “We are pleased that he has chosen to continue his professional development in our organization.”

Wallmark spent the 2014-15 season with Lulea of the Swedish Hockey League scoring five goals and 13 points.

The 19-year-old led the his club in playoff scoring during their first-round playoff loss to Frolunda registering five assists.

The native of Umea, Sweden represented his country at the 2015 world juniors scoring four goals and six points in seven games capturing a silver medal at the tournament.

Carolina selected the 6-foot, 176-pound forward in the fourth round (97th overall) at the 2014 NHL Draft.
