Former junior hockey coach and convicted sex offender Graham James is facing another charge of sexual assault, according to reports out of Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
Both the Southwest Booster and Prairie Post newspapers have stories on the new charge.
Due to a publication ban, it’s not known when the alleged assault (or assaults) took place. The name of the accuser is not known either. The case has been adjourned until June 13.
In 2013, James had a prison sentence increased to five years after the Manitoba Court of Appeal ruled that the initial punishment of two years (for sexually assaulting two of his former players, including Theoren Fleury) was unfit.
Prior to that, in 1997, James had been given a 3.5-year prison sentence for sexually assaulting two other former players.
Update: The most recent complaint was reportedly made by a former member of the Swift Current Broncos. The alleged assaults took place between 1990 and 1991, when James was coaching the team.
Update 2: Both Fleury and Sheldon Kennedy, another James victim that went on to play in the NHL, are aware of the new charges. Neither is surprised.
