From the Associated Press:
A person familiar with the discussions tells The Associated Press that Mike Babcock is in contract talks with the Buffalo Sabres to potentially become their next head coach.
The person said negotiations were taking place by phone between Babcock and Sabres general manager Tim Murray on Tuesday afternoon. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the talks are private.
The Sabres have a deep-pocketed owner in Terry Pegula and a prospect-rich organization that’s expected to add Jack Eichel at the upcoming draft, so this report shouldn’t really come as a huge shock.
Still, if Babcock does choose to leave Detroit -- and that remains a pretty big “if,” by the way -- it’ll come as a big jolt to the Red Wings organization and its fan base, while simultaneously adding to the excitement of suffering Sabres supporters, who may not have to suffer much longer.
"I'll know in the morning" Babcock texts as to where he'll coach next season...says there is nothing else to report. "Same old, same old"
