Despite a 4-0 loss to the Russians on Saturday the U.S. still have an opportunity to leave the World Hockey Championship with a medal around their neck.
The Americans will play the Czech Republic today in the bronze medal game.
After finishing the round robin as the top seed in Group B, the U.S. defeated Switzerland 3-1 on Thursday to advance to the semifinals; however, the Americans couldn’t get past the Russians for a second time in the tournament. They surprised the defending gold medalists with a 4-2 win during the round robin.
The Czech Republic landed in the bronze medal game after 2-0 loss to the Canadians on Saturday.
