The Detroit Red Wings have signed prospect Dominic Turgeon to a three-year, entry-level contract.
The 19-year-old had 18 goals and 43 points in 67 games with the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League this season.
Detroit swapped picks with the Columbus Blue Jackets in order to select Turgeon in the third round (63rd overall) at last June’s NHL Draft.
Part of the appeal for the Wings’ selecting Turgeon is his bloodlines - he is the son of former NHLer Pierre Turgeon.
He will return to Portland for the 2015-16 season.
