‘Life goes on’ for Julien, who’s ‘not getting into’ his future in Boston

Claude Julien

There was a (brief) Claude Julien sighting at TD Garden today, which led to (brief) comments about his coaching future in the wake of GM Peter Chiarelli’s dismissal.

From CSNNE:

Julien was asked if he was glad he signed that three-year contract extension in the middle of the season that will pay him roughly $2 million per season whether or not he coaches the B’s next season.

“That doesn’t matter,” said Julien. “Life goes on...life goes on.”

Did those decidedly ominous words usually reserved for sad situations mean that the Bruins coach knew he wasn’t coming back?

“I’m not getting into that right now,” said Julien, as he opened the door and disappeared into the B’s home office.

Upon dismissing Chiarelli, B’s president Cam Neely said he’d leave Julien’s future up to the next GM, but the defensive-minded coach could be in trouble regardless; various reports suggested part of Chiarelli’s firing was due to Neely wanting more control of the club and, prior to turfing the GM, it was Neely who said Boston needed to improve offensively.

“We’re having problems getting some offense going, that’s the big thing. Our power play isn’t clicking at the appropriate time when we could get back into a game or get ourselves a lead. But for me it’s been the offense that’s been struggling,” Neely said, per CBS Boston. “We seem to have to work very hard for our production.”

Boston finished 22nd in the NHL in goals per game this year (2.55) and 18th on the power play (17.8 percent).
