In case fans of non-playoff teams needed another reason to get excited about the draft lottery, Connor McDavid established a new franchise record with the OHL Erie Otters tonight.
He had a goal and an assist in the Otters’ 5-2 victory over the London Knights, bringing him up to 14 points in the second round series. That’s the most points any Otters player has ever recorded in a single playoff series, per the team’s Twitter feed.
That probably sounds impressive on its own, but here’s the most remarkable part: Tonight’s game was the completion of Erie’s four-game sweep of London. In other words, McDavid had to average 3.5 points per game to break that record.
The presumptive number one pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft now has 11 goals and 23 points in nine postseason contests this year, including his five-goal game on Friday. If you missed that one, here it is again:
