The Pittsburgh Penguins may have nearly missed the playoffs with one of the highest payrolls in the NHL, but their CEO, David Morehouse, remains pleased with how the injury-ravaged team has fared this season.

“Given all the difficulties we’ve been through this year,” Morehouse told the Tribune-Review, “we’re very happy to be where we are. Everyone has done a good job given the obstacles that we’ve had to go through. We’re just looking forward to going to New York now”.

The Penguins, who finished the regular season with just four wins in their last 15, will face the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Rangers in the first round. The Rangers eliminated the Penguins in the second round last year, prompting the firing of coach Dan Bylsma and GM Ray Shero.

When asked if the Pens’ struggles down the stretch led to discussion of another regime change, Morehouse replied, “Absolutely not.”
