Ottawa’s Andrew Hammond, Philly’s Brayden Schenn and Columbus’ Nick Foligno have been named the NHL’s three stars for the week ending Apr. 5, the league announced on Monday.
More:
Hammond helped the Senators continue their surge for a playoff berth by posting a 3-0-1 record, 1.63 goals-against average and a .940 save percentage as Ottawa (40-26-13, 93 points) finished the week two points behind both Wild Card spots in the Eastern Conference.
Schenn tied for the League lead in points with six (3-3-6) in three games as the Flyers (32-29-18, 82 points) gained five of a possible six points.
Foligno tied for the League lead in goals (4-1-5) in three games, helping the Blue Jackets (39-35-4, 82 points) set a franchise record with wins in nine consecutive contests - the longest winning streak in the NHL in 2014-15.
Just in case you’ve lost track of all the league-awarded hardware Hammond’s reaped over the last two months:
-- He was named first star for the week ending Mar. 1.
-- He was named the third star for the week ending Mar. 15.
-- Unsurprisingly, given the two notes above, he was named the first star of the month for March.
All told, the Hamburglar has now posted a 17-1-2 record with a 1.86 goals-against average, .939 save percentage and two shutouts since making his regular season debut on Feb. 16. So, just to put that in perspective -- in the seven weeks Hammond’s played for Ottawa this season, he’s captured star of the week three times and one star of the month.
That’s not bad.
