Trevor van Riemsdyk’s season appears like it is over.

The 23-year-old defenseman, who has split time this season between the Chicago Blackhawks and their AHL affiliate in Rockford, will have wrist surgery next Tuesday, the NHL club announced in a statement.

“Trevor van Riemsdyk suffered a right wrist injury in a recent game. He will undergo surgery on Tuesday, April 7. We anticipate a full recovery and a return to full hockey activities in approximately eight weeks,” said Dr. Michael Terry in a statement released Friday from the Blackhawks.

Signed as a college free agent last March, van Riemsdyk had one assist in 18 games this season for the Blackhawks. He also appeared in eight games for the Rockford IceHogs, recording three assists.

He was put on long-term injured reserve list, expected out for two to three months, in mid-November.
