Former NHLer and current Arizona Coyotes radio commentator Nick Boynton has entered a treatment facility following an incident at a Buffalo casino last month, during which he allegedly bit a police officer in what’s been called a “drunken rampage.”

Boynton, 36, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of assault, resisting arrest, criminal mischief and obstruction of governmental administration and charged with harassment and disorderly conduct. He failed to appear in Buffalo City Court yesterday for pretrial conference.

More, from the Buffalo News:

[Attorney Keith B.] Schulefand said Boynton, who posted $10,000 bail in the case, began intensive outpatient treatment Tuesday at the Meadows addiction treatment center in Scottsdale, Ariz., which involves counseling sessions Monday through Thursday.

He asked the judge to excuse his client from Wednesday’s conference.

The judge said she had no other option but to waive his appearance since Boynton was not there, but she stressed that he must attend the next court session May 8, a Friday when he is not receiving treatment.

If he does not appear in court then, she said she would issue a warrant.

Immediately following the casino incident, the Coyotes put Boynton on a leave of absence.
