Prospective NHL owner Bill Foley likes his chances of attracting free agents should the league grant him a Las Vegas expansion team.

“Look at the advantage we have from a financial standpoint of being in Las Vegas: There’s no state income taxes,” Foley said, per the Las Vegas Sun. “I can go to every guy in California and say, ‘The first thing I’m gonna do is save you 14 percent. That’s what you’re paying over there.’ And how about the Canadians? … They pay a ton.”

Four American teams -- Dallas, Florida, Tampa Bay, and Nashville -- are based in states with no state taxes.

States with NHL teams and relatively high taxes include California, Minnesota, New Jersey and New York.
