We already touched on this this morning, but in case you didn’t believe us that the Vancouver Canucks were far from assured of making the playoffs, here’s winger Radim Vrbata ahead of a four-game road trip through St. Louis, Nashville, Chicago and Winnipeg:
“We have to get some wins on this road trip. We have to find points. If we don’t, we are going to be in trouble.”
A resilient bunch in 2014-15, Vancouver’s also been one of the NHL’s best road teams, compiling a 22-12-3 record away from Rogers Arena. But that will all be forgotten if the Canucks choke away what’s been a nice bounce-back season.
Vancouver’s struggles against fast teams were evident once again in back-to-back home losses to Colorado and Dallas. The Canucks have actually fared reasonably well against big, heavy squads like St. Louis; they beat the Blues in their first two meetings and will look to complete the season sweep tonight.
“There are now seven games left and every point and every game will be important,” said Vrbata.
“We’ve played everybody already so we know what to expect from St. Louis, we know what to expect from Nashville, Chicago and Winnipeg. So it’s more about us being ready for each and every game.”
