Canucks earn single point in loss to the Stars

Dallas Stars v Vancouver Canucks

Dallas Stars v Vancouver Canucks

Jeff Vinnick

The Vancouver Canucks had an opportunity to gain ground on the L.A. Kings in the Pacific Division Saturday night.

With the Kings losing 4-1 to the Wild earlier in the night, the Canucks could’ve created a four-point cushion on the second seed in the division with a win over the Dallas Stars.

However, the Dallas Stars took advantage of the opportunity to play spoiler and edged the Canucks 4-3 in overtime.

John Klingberg scored the winner with 46.2 seconds remaining in the extra frame.

Dallas is six points back of the Winnipeg Jets for the second wild card seed in the Western Conference.

With the single point, the Canucks now hold a three-point lead on the L.A. Kings.

Vancouver led 2-1 heading into the third, but Patrick Eaves and Tyler Seguin scored to erase the deficit.

Radim Vrbata netted his 30th of the season with less than two minutes remaining in the third to tie it 3-3 and force overtime.

Jamie Benn opened the scoring.

Nick Bonino and Chris Higgins gave Vancouver a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Eddie Lack made 36 saves in the loss while Kari Lehtonen stopped 33 shots for the win.
