The Montreal Canadiens announced that they have partnered with Montreal Stars of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League.

What that means is the Stars will gain access to the Canadiens’ infrastructure and receive the Habs help in areas like marketing, advertising and sponsorships. The two clubs will also aide the grassroots level’s development of women’s hockey.

“As a professional hockey organization, we have been closely involved in minor hockey development for many years in Quebec, and with the growing popularity of women’s hockey over the last decade, I think this is the right time to concretely support women who play professional hockey, and, at the same time, promote the sport among up-and-coming players,” said Montreal Canadiens CEO Geoff Molson.

The CWHL is a five-team league that also includes clubs from Boston, Calgary, Toronto, and Brampton. The Stars won the Clarkson Cup in 2009, 2011, and 2012. They battled the Boston Blades for it this year, but ultimately suffered a 3-2 loss in overtime.
