Hawks seem prepared to use Teravainen on power play

If Saturday’s practice is any indication, Teuvo Teravainen will serve on Chicago’s second power-play unit during Sunday’s game against the New York Rangers. That would be a change of pace for him as Chicago has only used him on rare occasions with the man advantage so far.

“I think I’ve always been good on the power play,” Teravainen noted after the skate, per CSN Chicago. “I don’t know [why]. I just make some plays, like pass and shoot, and I think that’s one of my strengths.”

Teravainen is also projected to play on a line with Brandon Saad and Antoine Vermette after spending Friday’s contest in the press box. Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville specified that his decision to scratch Teravainen for their last game wasn’t a reflection of the 20-year-old rookie’s recent play.

“I thought he was coming off a real strong game,” Quenneville said. “Sometimes being patient, you get an opportunity. We’ll see how he goes with it.”

Teravainen has only averaged 11:35 minutes per contest in 2014-15. He has three goals and five points in 18 games.
