The Calgary Flames intend to announce plans to build a new arena in a “couple weeks,” according to an interview with team president Ken King on KiSS 95.9 radio Thursday morning.

And, per the Calgary Herald, King assured listeners that “we’re not going to sneak in here and steal money from the city.”

That’s important, because the club’s relationship with the city has been called into question, with reason to believe it’s not the most conducive to getting a new rink built.

The mayor, Naheed Nenshi, has said in the past that he finds it “extremely difficult to justify spending very scarce public money on a professional sports arena.”

As such, King said yesterday that the mayor will be “the first person” to see the “fully fleshed plan.”
