Out since November with a knee injury, Blackhawks defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk is expected to play for AHL Rockford in the next few days.

Prior to getting hurt, the 23-year-old rookie, signed out of college as a free agent, had been showing a lot of promise in the NHL.

“He’s come along fine,” coach Joel Quenneville said, per ESPN Chicago. “He hasn’t played yet. Will be playing this weekend for Rockford, and we hope that he comes along real well, because he’s one of those guys who was such a great, I don’t want to say surprise, but we’re very pleased with his initial contribution to our team and our organization right off the bat, and hopefully he can recapture that quickly.”

The IceHogs have games Friday and Saturday.
