Winger Daniel Winnik has been traded by the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Pittsburgh Penguins, in return for forward Zach Sill, Pittsburgh’s second-round draft pick in 2016 and Pittsburgh’s fourth-round draft pick in 2015.
Winnik is the key player in the deal. The 29-year-old has seven goals and 19 assists in 58 games this season.
The Leafs reportedly retained half of Winnik’s $1.3 million salary in the transaction.
Winnik is a pending unrestricted free agent who signed a one-year contract with the Leafs in July.
Nonis says the Penguins were very aggressive on Winnik the last 10 days. Their offer continued to get better.
