Jagr ‘knew’ his ice time would go down when DeBoer was fired

As if Patrick Kane’s injury wasn’t enough to kick-start the Jaromir Jagr trade rumors, this morning, Jagr threw those rumors into overdrive after remarking on the reduced ice time he’s received since the Devils fired coach Pete DeBoer in December.

“I knew it was going to happen. There is a history, so I knew. When coaches change, that’s just the way it is. This is not the first time it’s happened to me,” Jagr told NJ Advance Media.

Jagr added that his playing time only stands to go down even further if the Devils don’t trade him before Monday’s deadline. He’s previously said he has no control over whether he’s dealt or not.

In DeBoer’s last game behind the Devils’ bench, Jagr played 24:55 in a 2-1 shootout loss to Carolina.

Monday against Arizona, he played 12:49.

A 43-year-old pending unrestricted free agent, Jagr does not have a no-trade clause. He has 11 goals and 18 assists this season.
