The Chicago Blackhawks made a flurry of moves following news that Patrick Kane would be out for a significant length of time due to injury:

-- Kane has been placed on long-term injured reserve, meaning the ‘Hawks will have some available cap space to potentially make a trade prior to Monday’s trade deadline:

If #Blackhawks put Kane on LTIR, I think they could exceed the cap by his hit ($6.3m) minus what they’re reportedly under ($1.3m), so $5m.

-- Teuvo Teravainen has been recalled from AHL Rockford. Teravainen, 20, has 25 points in 39 games for the IceHogs and four points in 15 games with the ‘Hawks this year. Right now it’s unclear where he’ll fit in the lineup with Kane gone (Teravainen’s a center by trade, but could play wing); regardless, it appears the talented Finn will have a chance for some more top-tier minutes.

-- Trevor van Riemsdyk, who’s been out since mid-November with a fractured knee, has been sent to Rockford on a conditioning assignment. An undrafted free agent, TVR was one of the surprises from Chicago’s training camp, making the team and quickly emerging as a good depth defenseman at the NHL level. He appeared in 18 games for the ‘Hawks prior to getting hurt, averaging 13:32 TOI per night.
