Berube ‘baffled’ at ‘lack of energy’ for Flyers in loss to Hurricanes

It didn’t make much sense to head coach Craig Berube.

The Philadelphia Flyers were up against the Carolina Hurricanes, the last-place team in the Metropolitan Division, and the chance to inch closer to the Boston Bruins for the final Wild Card spot in the East. And then the Flyers went out and were thoroughly outplayed, suffering a 4-1 loss, which could be crucial to their playoff hopes.

Making matters even more confusing for the Flyers was the fact they had two very strong, emotional victories against Washington and Nashville -- two teams that appear more and more locked into playoff positions -- over the weekend.

“I am baffled,” said Berube, as per CSN Philadelphia. “We didn’t execute very well at all and lacked energy in the game.

“I can look back in the weekend, two big games, two emotional games. Maybe we zapped our emotions tonight. That’s a big thing for me tonight. The energy and emotion in the game.

“We lacked execution with the puck. We started in our end not getting the puck out, not making plays. Then offensively, not enough. Some good shifts with O-zone time, but just not enough overall.”

The Flyers face another struggling team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, on Thursday.
