NBCSN will continue its coverage of the 2014-15 campaign as Carolina Hurricanes host the Philadelphia Flyers at PNC Arena at 7:00 p.m. ET. In addition to NBCSN, you can also watch the game and pre-show online.

It remains to be seen if the Philadelphia Flyers dug themselves too deep of a hole to make a true playoff run, but either way, they’ve been showing quite a bit of fight lately.

Since Jan. 20, the Flyers have managed at least one standings point in all but one contest. They bring a two-game winning streak into Tuesday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes are probably at the point that they’re manufacturing reasons to care.

At least tonight provides an organic one, as Cam Ward is set to play in his 500th career game.

It provides an intriguing contrast between two teams in net. On one hand, Carolina’s suffered through highs and lows with Ward over the years. On the other, the Flyers continue to experience upheaval at the position, in this most recent case thanks to injuries.

Rob Zepp looks likely to start against Ward tonight, with Steve Mason making his way back into the mix as he recovers from a knee issue. Ray Emery had done a solid job with Mason on the mend, but now he appears to be banged up as well.

When it comes to the Flyers, much attention will likely be placed on the dynamic duo of Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek, especially since they shook off some minor droughts recently. Still, Wayne Simmonds comes in on a career-high eight game point streak (six goals, four assists), so Philly’s attack should be taken seriously.

The Hurricanes find themselves in a slightly awkward position with a home-heavy stretch of games and limited incentive to soak up standings points while the Flyers try to keep hope alive. With the trade deadline approaching, this game may influence how these two teams approach the rest of the 2014-15 campaign.
