If Michal Handzus has his way, the 2014 Western Conference finals won’t be the last time hockey fans see him play in the NHL.

The 37-year-old is playing in Slovakia this season, but his agent Matt Keator told ESPN that he’d love to return to the NHL in 2015-16.

“He’s doing well,” Keator said. “His career is not over. He still has some interest in maybe coming back and trying to play next year here. I think he’s taking this season to heal up from past injuries and play over in Europe and be with his family. But he hasn’t ruled out trying to come back next year.”

There were times that Handzus looked outclassed during the 2013-14 season with the Chicago Blackhawks, yet perhaps that was a matter of the situation. Maybe he was asked to do too much in high-level games that would expose most players? It’s not inconceivable that the veteran pivot could help someone in a depth role.

His numbers are solid overseas, if nothing else. He has 18 points in 22 games for HC ’05 Banksa Bystrica in the Slovak Extraliga.
