Contract talks between the Toronto Maple Leafs and pending restricted free agent Jonathan Bernier have yet to begin.
Pat Brisson, the agent for Bernier, tells PHT there’s nothing to report regarding negotiations on a contract extension for the goaltender.
“Nothing is going on with Jon Bernier right now. His contract is up this summer. He has another year left before becoming [an unrestricted] free agent in the summer of 2016,” said Brisson. “We’re just going to see how things are going to go here in the next little while. Obviously the trade deadline is this weekend.
“He’s happy [in Toronto]. He’s got an opportunity to play the last couple of years. A lot more this year. As far as the future, we are going to talk about it at the right time.”
In two seasons with the Leafs Bernier is 43-37-12 to go along with a 2.71 G.A.A. and a .919 save percentage.
The 26-year-old is in the final year of a two-year, $5.8 million contract, which carries a cap hit of $2.9 million.
