Slumping Ducks ‘need to get that mojo back’

We wrote a couple of days ago about the Anaheim Ducks, and how their last nine games (3-5-1) have been far from spectacular.

Based on his comments ahead of tonight’s home date with the Lightning, Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf would seem to agree with our analysis.

“We’re just at that point in the year where we have to be mentally stronger,” Getzlaf said. “We need to get that mojo back that we had throughout the start of the season. We never really strayed from our path ever during the start of the year. It didn’t matter what the score was. We just played.”

The Ducks still hold a comfortable 10-point lead over second-place Vancouver in the Pacific Division.

What may have been lost, however, is a chance at the top seed in the Western Conference. The red-hot Nashville Predators have moved seven points up on the Ducks for that.

According to Sports Club Stats, Anaheim has a 34 percent chance of playing Winnipeg in the first round of the playoffs. If that ends up being the matchup -- and, frankly, whoever they end up playing -- the Ducks could be in trouble if they don’t find “that mojo.”
