Ovechkin: ‘I’m not a diver’

Washington captain Alex Ovechkin met with media for the first time since Ryan Getzlaf accused him of diving during Sunday’s game in Anaheim, and Ovi was pretty blunt in his replies:

Ovechkin’s comments come shortly after Getzlaf ripped into the Russian sniper following Washington’s 5-3 win at Honda.

“I didn’t know he was going to dive the way he did tonight,” said Getzlaf, per the L.A. Times’ Helene Elliott. “All over the [expletive] ice. That part of it is a little embarrassing. Pardon my language. He’s a great player.

“He’s going to score goals and make plays. That other stuff’s embarrassing.”

Here’s one of the incidents Getzlaf was referring to:

That play earned Getzlaf a two-minute slashing minor, the same infraction Andrew Cogliano got whistled on after taking a chop at Ovechkin early in the third period.
