Third time’s a charm? Arcobello claimed off waivers by Coyotes

Mark Arcobello’s crazy year took another turn on Wednesday, as he was claimed off waivers for the third time this season -- this time, by the Arizona Coyotes.

The 26-year-old was placed on waivers yesterday by Pittsburgh, after scoring two points in 10 games for the Pens. Arcobello was acquired by Pittsburgh -- yes, via waivers -- in mid-January after a brief stint in Nashville; he only appeared in four games for the Preds before the club put him on the wire.

It’s easy to forget that, at the start of this season, Arcobello was in his third year with the Oilers and a regular lineup fixture, scoring seven goals and 12 points in 36 games.

It’s also easy to see why so many teams are willing to take a flier on him. He’s proven to be a talented scorer at the AHL level -- he had 28 points in 15 games with Oklahoma City last season -- and is a relatively inexpensive acquisition, currently on a one-year deal with a $600,000 cap hit.

In a related move to picking up Arcobello, Arizona placed forward Brandon McMillan on waivers today.
