Trotz won’t say what the Caps need, ‘because then everybody will know’

Barry Trotz has “a pretty good idea” what his Washington Capitals need leading up to the March 2 trade deadline.

Except here’s the thing -- if the coach told you, he’d then have to ... well, actually, he probably wouldn’t kill you. But he’s not telling anyway.

“I would tell you all of our needs but I’m not going to because then everybody will know and hold us hostage, so I will not tell you,” said Trotz, per CSN Washington.

We’ve speculated in the past that the Caps may be in the market for a veteran center to play on the second line; however, if the price is too high for GM Brian MacLellan to add to the roster, Trotz said he’d be fine going into the playoffs with what he’s got now.

“I’ve gone into the playoffs with less,” he said.
