Gordie Howe, 86, will be honored tonight in Saskatoon at the Kinsmen Sports Celebrity Dinner, an event being billed as Mr. Hockey’s final public appearance.

Those who will be in attendance include Wayne Gretzky, Bobby Hull and Brett Hull.

Suffice to say, tonight could be a special night.

Howe suffered a “significant stroke” in October, and by November his health was “definitely headed in the wrong direction.”

But with the help of stem cell therapy, Howe has made a “fantastic” recovery, allowing him to travel to his native Saskatchewan for tonight’s event.

Below is Gretzky talking about meeting Howe as a child, and how the experience left “nothing but great memories.”
