Blood feud, renewed: Colorado outdoor game to feature Avs-Wings alumni tilt

One of the fiercest feuds in NHL history will be rekindled next year at Coors Field.

Per the Denver Post, the Colorado Avalanche and Detroit Red Wings will play an alumni game during the Stadium Series festivities in February 2016.

During the mid-1990s and early 2000s, Colorado and Detroit formed one of the nastiest rivalries in recent memory -- so nasty, in fact, that ex-Denver Post scribe Adrian Dater wrote a book, Blood Feud, about the hatred between the two.

Here, watch:

That Patrick Roy-Chris Osgood fight remains the gold standard for goalie scraps. So good.

Here’s more from the Detroit side of things, per MLive:

Red Wings general manager Ken Holland thinks an alumni game will happen prior to the regular game on Feb. 27, 2016.

“Kris Draper (Red Wings special assistant to the GM) is anxious to contact his former teammates to see if they’ll participate,” Holland said.

Avalanche coach and former goaltender Patrick Roy, a key figure in the rivalry, sounded stoked about the possibility of going down memory lane, saying it would be fun.

“I think it would be interesting if they do one,” Roy told Colorado media before Thursday’s game. “If they do one obviously I’m a bit excited about it. I look forward to it.”

As for Roy throwing down with Osgood again?

“Well, I think we’re going to skip that part,” he said. “If you don’t mind.”
