Everyone’s wondering what Evander Kane did to get scratched

There’s no shortage of rumors on Twitter, but the Winnipeg Jets haven’t specified what, exactly, Evander Kane did to become a healthy scratch last night in his home town of Vancouver.

Paul Maurice would only call it a “coach’s decision.” When pressed about said decision to leave a healthy Kane out of such an important game -- for a Jets side that came into the contest having lost four in a row, no less -- Maurice refused to budge.

The presumption is that Kane was held out for disciplinary reasons.

The problem with leaving it at that is that the phrase “disciplinary reasons” encompasses a wide range of possibilities, from missing the team bus to, well, go ahead and search Twitter.

What we can be sure of is that Maurice will be asked about this again. And when Kane is made available to reporters, he’ll be asked about it too. His teammates may be asked to chime in as well.

In the meantime, they’ll talk about it on the radio and, with yet another reason to do so, as if there haven’t been enough of those already, speculate about the 23-year-old’s future in Winnipeg.

The Jets, now winless in their last five, host the Blackhawks on Friday.
