The Dallas Stars were mere seconds away from walking away with a key victory tonight. Instead they’re have to settle for a consolation point in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Colorado Avalanche.

Dallas had a 2-0 edge going into the third period, but Ryan O’Reilly cut the lead in half at 6:20 of the frame and then Tyson Barrie managed to get the puck by Kari Lehtonen amid the chaos surrounding the net in the dying seconds of regulation time:

Colorado and Dallas are both on the outside in the playoffs race, but neither is far from the second Wild Card seed Vancouver Canucks. Meanwhile, Dallas slid behind Colorado and is now tied with Minnesota, which also won tonight.
