Rangers waive Malone; playing days over?

The New York Rangers have put veteran forward Ryan Malone on waivers, possibly as a step towards the 35-year-old ending his playing career.

From TSN:

Malone, who signed a two-way deal with the Rangers during training camp, appeared in six games for the Rangers before clearing waivers and reporting to AHL Hartford in November. He’s since appeared in 24 games with the Wolf Pack — scoring four goals and 10 points — but didn’t look to be in the mix for a recall.

The former Penguins and Lightning forward first caught on with the Rangers after a difficult end to his time in Tampa Bay; the club bought Malone out in June following his arrest on DUI and cocaine possession charges.
