Report: Veteran NHLer Konopka signs in Polish league

Journeyman tough guy Zenon Konopka is back playing hockey -- in Poland.

On Friday, a report from Polish outlet Hokej.net said the 34-year-old Konopka had agreed to join KH Sanok of the Polska Liga Hokejowa.

Konopka, who is Polish, appeared in 346 games over nine years with Anaheim, Columbus, Tampa Bay, Long Island, Ottawa, Minnesota and Buffalo. His finest season came with the Islanders in 2009-10, when he posted career highs in games (82), points (nine) and penalty minutes (307); in addition to his work as an enforcer, Konopka carved himself a niche as good faceoff guy and a respectable defensive forward.

His time in the NHL ended on a sour note, however. After appearing in 23 games for Buffalo last season, Konopka was suspended 20 games for violating terms of the NHL- NHLPA Performance Enhancing Substances Program.
