The Buffalo Sabres lost their 13th straight last night, falling 3-2 in Edmonton to the Oilers.

In those 13 games, the Sabres have been:

--- outscored 56 to 19
--- outshot 428 to 237

Given those astounding statistics, you’ll forgive people for wondering when -- or even, if -- they’ll win again this season.

“You can’t look at it like that, the ‘when will we win?’ You just can’t,” defenseman Josh Gorges said last night, per the Buffalo News.

“As hard as it is and as frustrating as this is, tomorrow we have to be refreshed and come with the right mindset. We can’t make these kind of errors, can’t keep beating ourselves.”

Buffalo’s right back at it tonight in Vancouver, against a rested Canucks side that held a team meeting Wednesday following a bad loss to the Ducks on Tuesday.

“We talked about our team identity,” coach Willie Desjardins said, per the Canadian Press. “We talked about who we are … the things we do when we play our game. We asked each other: ‘Is that how we played (Tuesday) night? And if it isn’t how we played, is that acceptable?’ I don’t think the guys felt we played our best game.”

Which is to say, don’t expect the Canucks to take tonight’s game lightly. They need the two points more badly than the Sabres, who are only playing for pride at this point.

“We have to face reality,” said Gorges. “These mistakes we continually make, we have to eliminate them and find a way to play with confidence and not play scared to lose.”
