Canucks aim to improve poor home record, with ‘tired’ teams on the way

The Vancouver Canucks have a good opportunity to improve their disappointing record at Rogers Arena, even as they kick off a six-game home stand against some pretty good teams.

That’s because of the six teams coming into Vancouver over the next 12 days, four will have played the night before. Only tonight’s contest against Anaheim and Sunday’s against Minnesota will feature an opponent that isn’t “tired.”

The other four? Buffalo on Thursday, plays the night before in Edmonton; Winnipeg next Tuesday, plays the night before in Calgary; San Jose next Thursday, plays the night before in Calgary; and Pittsburgh next Saturday, plays the night before in Calgary.

In a related story, the Flames, just two points back of Vancouver, can’t be too happy about the above.

The Canucks are just 11-8-1 at home this season, compared to an impressive 15-8-2 mark on the road.

“Our home record isn’t where we want it to be,” coach Willie Desjardins conceded today.

Desjardins also confirmed today that defenseman Kevin Bieksa is expected to miss 6-8 weeks after undergoing successful hand surgery last week.
