Colorado Avalanche defenseman Erik Johnson will not participate in this weekend’s All-Star Game due to a lower body injury the club announced Thursday.
Johnson had a shot on goal and three hits in nearly 23 minutes of ice time during Wednesday night’s 3-2 shootout victory over the Boston Bruins.
The 26-year-old is tied for first among defensemen scoring with a career-high 12 goals this season. Johnson also has 23 points and a plus-2 rating in 47 games.
As a result of missing the All-Star Game, Johnson will also miss the Avs’ Jan. 27 game in Nashville.
Johnson is just the latest to bow out of this weekend’s festivities.
Brian Elliott has replaced Sergei Bobrovsky and rookie Filip Forsberg was announced as the injury replacement for Evgeni Malkin on Thursday.
Penguins’ captain Sidney Crosby will also skip the All-Star Game due to a lower body injury.
