Derek Stepan’s spinning backhand pass set up Carl Hagelin for the overtime winner, as the New York Rangers defeated the Ottawa Senators 3-2.
Nice play. Nice finish.
But watched again, it’s one of those plays that nearly didn’t develop at all, with a bouncing puck along the boards that could’ve been turned over, and a soft pass that easily could’ve been picked off and turned back the other way from Ryan McDonagh, who ended up drawing the second assist.
Instead, it all worked out for the Rangers, who have won three games in a row, and eight of their last 10.
