Veteran winger Todd Bertuzzi has taken a leave from Ottawa’s AHL affiliate in Binghamton to get his injured knee checked out, the club confirmed on Monday.

Bertuzzi, 39, was hurt during a 5-1 loss to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Saturday night. He didn’t play Sunday, meaning he only played two games in a B-Sens uniform after signing a professional tryout with Binghamton on Jan. 12.

Per the Sens, Bertuzzi has headed back to his home in Guelph, Ontario to get further examination. As for what this means for his future?

Prior to his comeback attempt, Bertuzzi hadn’t played hockey since suiting up for one of Detroit’s five games in an opening-round playoff loss to Boston last spring.
