Video: Jets coach calls Carcillo cross check ‘vicious, to an unsuspecting player’

Dan Carcillo

Winnipeg Jets center Mathieu Perreault left Friday’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks and did not return after taking a cross check from Daniel Carcillo late in the second period.

According to Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun, Perreault will be evaluated Saturday.

The incident, which occurred with about 10 seconds remaining in the period, resulted in only a minor penalty for Carcillo. The Jets scored three times in the third to defeat the Blackhawks by a final score of 4-2. It was an emotional, physical contest that saw a pair of fights following big hits in the first period.

However, losing Perreault to an injury would be a major loss for the Jets. The 27-year-old Perreault has 15 goals and 29 points in 45 games.

Jets head coach Paul Maurice spoke out about the Carcillo incident.

“I saw it on the video. It was a vicious cross-check to an unsuspecting player,” said Maurice, as per Brian Hedger of NHL.com.

Now, could Carcillo be facing supplemental discipline for the cross check?
