Matt Calvert, on the receiving end of what appeared to be a questionable hit from Carl Soderberg earlier in Saturday’s game, scored twice late in the third period and the Columbus Blue Jackets escaped Boston with a victory.
The loss ends the Bruins’ winning streak at five games. Boston was already without forward Brad Marchand, who is serving a two-game suspension for a slew-foot.
Further to the Soderberg hit on Calvert, there was no call on the play. Calvert went for a shot, when Soderberg swiped in front of him and delivered the hit, which sent the Columbus forward spiraling around to the ice.
The Blue Jackets, thanks to the two Calvert goals in the final 3:03 of regulation, earned a 3-1 victory.
Calvert was not available to media after the game due to illness, according to Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch.
“We didn’t want to put in the work. We lost a lot of battles,” said Bruins head coach Claude Julien, as per Joe Haggerty of CSNNE.com.
