The Chicago Blackhawks and Winnipeg Jets were involved in a hectic, physical and intense first period on Friday. You can understand why - these teams entered the game separated by four points in the Central Division standings, while both laying claim to post-season positions in the Western Conference.

Emotions got the better of both teams at certain points.

Anthony Peluso fought Bryan Bickell, and was handed an instigator penalty and misconduct for starting the fight. A few minutes later, Brent Seabrook dropped the gloves with Jim Slater, after Slater threw a hit on Patrick Kane along the boards.

When they weren’t fighting, both teams engaged in an entertaining first period. It ended with both teams tied at one goal apiece, and the shots 16-12 for Winnipeg.
