Combined records suggest East catching up to West

Consider this a brief follow-up to last Friday’s post about the Pacific Division not being so scary anymore.

Because remember last season when the Western Conference dominated the East to the tune of a 246-150-52 combined record?

Well, it’s a slightly different story this season. Assuming my math is correct, I’ve got the West at 120-90-24 versus the East, while the East is at 114-98-22 versus the West.

A handful of Eastern teams have excellent records versus the West, including the Red Wings (8-2-1), Penguins (8-2-0), Rangers (9-2-3), and Lightning (7-3-1).

So while the West is still superior overall, the East appears to be catching up. (Particularly on that not-so-scary-anymore Pacific Division.)
