Former journeyman Jim Dowd, who played for 10 NHL teams during a 16-year career, is facing a simple assault charge stemming from an alleged incident while coaching high school hockey game in New Jersey.

A parent has accused the Manasquan-Point Pleasant Beach hockey coach of kicking a 16-year-old player in the back, News 12 reported. The incident happened during a game Wednesday against Red Bank Regional, according to the report.
Dowd, 46, reportedly did not coach the team in its game Monday night against Rumson-Fair Haven. He is scheduled to appear today in Wall Township Municipal Court.
Dowd, who is from Brick, had a 17-year career in the NHL, playing for the Devils from 1991-1996 and again in the 2006-2007 season.
Dowd, who won a Stanley Cup with the Devils in 1995, did not respond to attempts to reach him for comment. His son, Jim Jr., is a freshman forward on the Manasquan team the school’s second-leading scorer.
