Video: Parise on father’s legacy -- ‘The way he treated people is something that I’ll always remember’

Zach Parise spoke with the media today about the passing of his father, J.P., who died Wednesday following a battle with lung cancer.

It has not been an easy time for Parise and his family, but he’s ready to get back to work.

“Not only the last few days, but the last month has been really hard,” said Parise. “Last night, watching the game, finally my wife told me, ‘You have to go to the rink. You have to go and practice.’”

Parise was indeed back at the rink today after missing games Tuesday and Thursday. He plans to play tomorrow versus Nashville.

“I know my dad probably would’ve been mad at me for skipping the San Jose game. He probably would’ve been mad at me for not playing last night (versus Chicago), too,” he said.

“So, it was important for me to get back.”

Parise was asked what part of his dad’s legacy he wanted to carry on.

“The one thing he always said was, ‘Just be a good guy,’” he said. “The way he treated people. At the rink, the people that work here, his teammates, the staff -- everyone.

“The way he treated people is something that I’ll always remember.”
