The Florida Panthers and Calgary Flames have completed a trade just prior to facing off against each other Friday evening.

The Panthers sent forward Drew Shore to the Flames in exchange for forward Corban Knight, the club announced a short time ago. Florida parts ways with Shore, a former second-round selection of that club from 2009. Knight was also selected by the Panthers in the fifth round of that same draft.

“We tried to fit him into the mix here but we’ve been healthy and had a busy offseason signing [Dave] Bolland and [Derek] MacKenzie,’' said Panthers general manager Dale Tallon, as per the Miami Herald.

“We’re very deep the middle. It was frustrating on both ends that we couldn’t get him more action. This is an opportunity for him. I have nothing but good things to say about the kid. He’s very valuable, but we have a lot of depth.”

The 24-year-old Knight has appeared in nine NHL games over the last two seasons, scoring once.

The 23-year-old Shore has played in 67 NHL games, with eight goals and 20 points.

Both players have spent the majority of this season in the American Hockey League.
