Carrying three goalies not ‘troublesome’ for Blues

When Brian Elliott returned from injury, many figured that would be the end for Martin Brodeur with the St. Louis Blues.

Didn’t happen. The Blues decided to carry three goalies -- Elliott, Brodeur and youngster Jake Allen -- on the roster, something that teams generally try to avoid.

“I don’t think it’s troublesome now,” coach Ken Hitchcock said recently, per Fox Sports Midwest. “I think our focus right now is on Elliott, keeping him up and running and then the other two guys are going to have to wait their turn.”

In keeping Broduer, it may be the Blues want an insurance policy in case Elliott can’t stay healthy. Allen, after all, has only made 31 NHL starts in his career, and he hasn’t been all that great this season, with a .899 save percentage in 19 appearances.

Hitchcock also pointed to Brodeur’s “winning pedigree” as something the future Hall of Famer brings to the team.

Elliott is expected to start tonight against the Sharks.
