Online bookmaker: McDavid the heavy favorite to be drafted first overall

While Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel have both been described as potential “generational” hockey players, online bookmaker Bovada seems fairly certain which prospect will be the NHL’s first overall draft pick come June 26.

That would be McDavid, who’s on the board at 1/20, while Eichel is at 8/1.

Certainly, McDavid’s performance at the World Juniors didn’t hurt his stock. He wasn’t Canada’s best player on the way to winning gold, but the 17-year-old was impressive in scoring three goals and adding eight assists in seven games.

Eichel also had his moments in the tournament; however, the United States lost to Russia in the quarterfinals, so the 18-year-old was unable to participate in a medal game.

Is it a sure thing that McDavid will go first overall, with Eichel going second? Nope. One scout, for instance, told Sportsnet.ca: “They’re the same position but different players. McDavid, it’s all speed, skill and vision. Eichel, he’s a bigger, stronger kid with a lot of skill, too. It might come down to what you like in a player.”

It might.

But probably not.

It’ll probably just be McDavid.
