All Braden, all the time
Braden Holtby will be in goal for the Capitals tonight, making history in the process:Braden Holtby has appeared in 21 consecutive games. Another tonight v. TOR and he’ll tie the franchise record (Wayne Stephenson, ’79-80).

The streak began back on Nov. 18, when Holtby was in goal for a 2-1 OT win over Arizona. Since then Backup Justin Peters has seen a grand total of 40 minutes of action; in a 6-2 loss to Toronto in late October, Peters started but was hooked in favor of Holtby after the first period, only to be re-inserted for the final frame.
Peters hasn’t played since.
As the above suggests, Caps head coach Barry Trotz has given Holtby a full vote of confidence as the No. 1 netminder this year, and the 25-year-old has responded well with an 18-8-6 record, .920 save percentage and 2.30 GAA. He’s also won three of his last four starts, including the Winter Classic over Chicago on Jan. 1.
For Toronto, Jonathan Bernier will be in goal.
